The Grand Theft Auto Retrospective Part 9 Vice City Stories

The Grand Theft Auto Retrospective Part 9

Once again we are shrinking down as we have another portable game in our Grand Theft Auto Retrospective!

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories (2006) PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories was a huge hit and at the same time, RockStar was working on another “stories” game, but this one was based on Vice City. It would be released just a year after Liberty City Stories and just like that, it is regarded as one of the best games on the handheld.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories is once again set in the 1980’s. Just like its console big brother. The style, the fashion, the music, the cars and the way people talk are right out of the 80’s and it is awesome. This time you play as a guy called, Vic Vance. Vic is a pretty interesting character in that he is an army vet who was just trying to make some money for his family, but through a series of events that just keep getting darker and darker, he finds himself deep in the world of organized crime!

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories plays just like the last game on the PSP, but the big difference here is the empire building aspect. When you take a business from a rival gang, you are now responsible for running this business and making as much money as possible. It was a pretty interesting idea and one that was expanded upon in later games in the series.

While it may lack the wow factor that Liberty City Stories had as the first full GTA game on a handheld console. It was still very well received, with the only issue people really having with the game being that it was perhaps a little too ambitious for the PSP as the handheld could struggle to keep up. It is worth noting that in the following year. Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories would be ported to the PlayStation 2, but it was a very rushed and poorly done port.

Thoughts On Doom On The Nintendo Switch

Thoughts On Doom On The Nintendo Switch

As you know, here at Mods R Us, we are all about first person shooters. We have been taking a real close look at Call Of Duty WW II lately, but there is another first person shooter that was announced recently that took us and many other people by surprise and that is Doom….. for the Nintendo Switch.

While we focus on modded controllers for the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It is still very interesting to us that the Nintendo Switch is getting a port of Doom. This is the same Doom that blew us away last year on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC it actually works great with our controllers.

The Nintendo Switch is not as powerful as the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One so the game has taken a hit in the frame rate department. It has been said that it is locked at 30 FPS which has gotten some people up in arms. We feel that the fact this is running at all on the Nintendo Switch is amazing and to be honest with you, people who never got to play the game on Xbox One, PS4 or PC are probably not actually going to notice.

Doom is going to just have the single player campaign on the Switch cartridge or card. The multiplayer is going to be available, but you have to download it and it is a 9 GB download! With the tiny 32 GB storage that the Switch has, this is actually a far bigger deal than the game running at 30 FPS!

Going back to the 30 FPS thing, we feel that as every Switch owner is going to be on a level playing field, the lower frame rate should not be an issue, but we are sure that some of you who have played the other versions will certainly notice it.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Trailer Show How Much Content Game Has

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Trailer Show How Much Content Game Has

Here at Mods R Us, we had a lot of fun with Star Wars Battlefront, even if it was severely lacking in content. But a recent trailer was just released that showed, this time EA is not messing around.

The trailer shows off just how much more content Star Wars Battlefront 2 has over its predecessor. Of course, we all know that this time there is a full on story mode, but they actually had a pretty interesting chart in this trailer that showed just how much new content there would be. Locations have been increased from 4 to 18 and they are going to span all three eras of Star Wars movies. There are now 39 different vehicles whereas there were only 11 in the original Star Wars Battlefront.

There is also going to be a ton more Star Wars characters to play as. Star Wars Battlefront will have 14 different heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe for you to play as. The last Battlefront game only had 6 (not counting DLC) Star Wars characters to play as. Once again all 14 characters are going to represent the whole Star Wars saga which is really cool.

EA have also accounted that there will be fewer game modes this time. Star Wars Battlefront 2 will have 5 different game modes, the last Battlefront game had 9. But to be fair some of these modes were very, very similar so getting rid of those and just making the five they have all feel different is ok in our book.

The Grand Theft Auto Retrospective Part 8

The Grand Theft Auto Retrospective Part 8

Join us once again as we take a walk on the wrong side of the tracks as we look back at the history of Grand Theft Auto!

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories (2005) PlayStation Portable

The year prior, RockStar had a lot of success with bringing GTA to the GameBoy Advance. But with the far more powerful, PlayStation Portable they had the chance to bring as close to the console experience as possible to a handheld. Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories was the most anticipated game on the PSP. It was a game that many people actually bought the handheld just to play.

The story of the game sees you playing as Toni Cipriani, who as you have probably guessed is a mobster who is trying to work his way up the ranks, seek revenge and make as much money as possible. The story is actually pretty well done and it is set before the events of Grand Theft Auto III.

While the story is fun, the gameplay is the real star here. RockStar did a fantastic job with this game and it really does come close to matching what the console GTA games offered, all be it in a bit of a smaller scale. While this is based on GTA III. Liberty City Stories has more in common with the later games in the series, Vice City, and San Andreas as it gives the player more control over the camera, more indoor areas to explore and many of the vehicles that those two games offered. It even had a fun multiplayer mode which at the time was a huge deal.

In all Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories was a huge success it was fun to play, sold a ton of copies and was very well received. It would actually be ported to the PlayStation 2 the following year and also end up on mobile devices in 2016.
